I've been told by Maelle you could potentially help me with an injury. I have reason to believe it has a magically-charged infection. She mentioned chroma, but I have some concerns. Still, I said I would reach out.
I do have healing skills, even some that are quite potent, but I have yet to test them in Etraya. I've only recently regained access to my chroma, but all my other chroma-based abilities seem intact and effective.
Magically-charged infection sounds... different, but I'd certainly be happy to help if I can.
What are these concerns, if you don't mind explaining?
I contracted the initial infection through an injury I wasn't able to get taken care of. The magic part either happened shortly after, or simultaneously, given the environment I was in when I was hurt. It's something I've seen before in plants, but not in a person, and at first I thought it transferred through liquid contact. Now, I'm not sure. I also don't know the full extent of it's repercussions. I understand if this is considered more of a risk than you'd be willing to take on, but Maelle would be on my case if I didn't at least ask.
I'm not that easily shaken. And I can appreciate a challenge.

A force that can bite back, corrupt, take over the person using it. What I do may look like magic, but chroma... chroma isn't sentient. It's a tool with no will of its own. It's building blocks inherent in all living beings and the environment, where we're from. We've learned how to harness it to many different purposes, but the process is technical, scientific. Not magical.
So while I cannot guarantee my chroma is able to heal you, how these two things might interact, I'd be willing to give it a try. Besides... it sounds like not trying isn't really an option for you.
Interesting. I'd agree- my own experience and interpretation of the magic I've dealt with at first seemed to me like how you describe chroma; able to be manipulated through specific interactions using runes. Much like how certain metals are needed to be better conduits to electricity, without everything in the right order, you can either get no reaction, or too much reaction (an explosion...)
But as our research progressed on the arcane, that's when we noticed certain things outside the bounds of pure scientific manipulation. Sometimes it even seemed retaliatory, in ways no other nature was. Water doesn't care what you use it for or how often, but magic does.
If chroma's truly different, then like you said, it might work, or it might have a bad reaction. I doubt the infection in my leg has any form of arcane sentience, so if your chroma is more like water in the metaphor I used, I'm feeling more confident there won't be a bad reaction.
I appreciate the information. I would liken chroma more to water, to use this metaphor of yours. But I would also add that while chroma is a tool, it has potential to be a dangerous tool. That's dependent on the person wielding it. A knife is useful in most hands; dangerous in others. Chroma isn't different in that regard.
Well, we can speculate all day, but there's only one way to find out for certain. When would you like to attempt this?
How typical of men. Well, my schedule is kind of light these days, so I can be there whenever is convenient for you. Just give me your address. I'm assuming you'd be more comfortable doing this at your own housingโ and depending on the site of the injury, perhaps you're better off not moving about too much.
